daniel schools me on gay life

i just found this old article written by my favorite denver blogger, dan gonzales. it’s pretty much any and everything you’d want to know about denver if you’re a gay man into clubs and cruising.
there’s more to denver, though…. isn’t there?
of course there is. i went to the wednesdayconversation group at the center last week and there were like 6 new people there. it probably has something to do with the center’s new (and very user friendly website).
anyway, this guy who’s lived in denver for over 40 years was so shocked that people we actually interested in having conversations. who knew. apparently gay men like to talk. it seems denver actually has a long history of conversation groups.
Coming Out/Being Out is the oldest of the groups, starting in 1976 to provide space for men to talk about accepting ourselves in our daily lives. I’ve never been but apparently they’re not a therapy group, just an informal group of men who like to talk. I’ll have to take that at face value until I attend. They meet every monday at 7:30 at the Warren Methodist Church on 14th and Gilpin. Contact the facilitators by email: facilitators@denver-gay-discussion-grp.org
Brothas4Ever started in 2000 and is basically a conversation group for African American men. They meet every monday at 7:30 as well (interesting). I’ve been here and know that good conversation and good food is regular. Contact Bruce, the facilitator, at 303-367-5021
El Futuro, who’s funding is currently in jeopardy (check the site for details and what you can do), is not so much a conversation group but a full scale community initiative. Most of their stuff is about building a healthy gay and bisexual latino community in denver so they do workshops, classes, conversations, testing, and all that good stuff. But they also do great open events like road trips, movies, and dinner parties. I look forward to many more successful years of El Futuro.
Last but not least, Men are Talking is the glbt center’s own conversation group for men. I don’t know how old the group is but it was pretty fun. The facilitiator pretty much asked us what we wanted to talk about and w chatted. Afterwards people got together for dinner and mad plans to meet up outside the group. They officially meet on Wednesday nights at 7 at the center.
All these groups are appealing mostly if you like conversation type groups. but I know that everybody isn’t into that. fortunately, like to talk. but I also met a few guys who I’m now friends with and plan on hanging out with outside the group. oh the possibilities
