Real World DC – Ep 2 Recapped: “The Housemates Get Incestuous”
Part of a humorous weekly recap of MTV’s Real World DC featuring cast member and Denver queer Mike Manning. These recaps are not meant to substitute for watching the actual show but rather provide humorous commentary about that week’s drama. Full episodes are available on MTV’s website here.
Tonight’s episode was all about going out drinking and then starting relationship drama with the other roommates in the house.
The Setup Night
Right off the bat Mike and Ashley are shown as BFFs, they even have a heart-to-heart laying on a bed about Mike realizing he’s bi and we also learn of an upcoming visit by Mike’s BF Tanner we can look forward to. Callie and panda-hat-wearing Andrew look like a cute couple in the works and sparks fly between Emily and Tye.
Emily and Tye get things off to a spectacular start when at a club they both decide to pull the I’m going to go make out with someone else to make you jealous thing. This leads into a eye-rolling love hate relationship for the rest of the episode.
The 4th of July Night
The next night shown in the episode is the 4th of July. The roommates first head out to the S-Street block party where apparently nobody who lives on S-street is over the age of thirty which I find hard to believe given the real estate prices in Washington DC.
Without explanation the cast gets on a psychedelic school bus and ends up on a party boat where they watch fireworks. Hipster boy and cast member Josh makes his sole appearance for the night throwing a red white and blue cupcake at Mike thus initiating a very patriotic cupcake fight. Josh then does nothing for the rest of the episode.
It’s at this point we realize that although Andrew is a fun guy to be around he has zero game and drunkenly fails to drag Callie off to a dark corner of the boat to have his way with her.
The Gay Bar Night
The housemates head to a gay club this evening and Mike is shown hanging all over Ashley the first half of the night till he meets a twinky guy named Robbie. As you can see from the pictures above Mike ends up taking Robbie back to the house for making out and “some hands” as he says the next day. While watching Mike and Robbie make out Ashley bitterly remarks “that’s not cute.” Ashley then shoots lasers out of her eyes causing Robbie to explode and is generally bent out of shape for the remainder of the episode.
OMG Look, Something Productive Happens During The Day
Mike and his protein shake head off to HRC’s headquarters to interview for a summer internship. On a serious note I wish MTV had shown more of the interview since they only chose to focus on Mike talking about his coming out and religious background, rather than telling us his what he hopes to get out of an internship with HRC or his qualifications.
Guys Night Out
After having been rejected by Callie, Andrew wants to show that he’s so totally over her and goes out and picks up a drunk blond girl named Krystal. Krystal by the way will one day make an awesome cougar. They make out in the hot tub and head back to Andrew’s room but the other girls in the house continue their eavesdropping and snooping and generally laugh and snicker until Krystal leaves.
Oh and Emily and Tye finally consummate their love-hate relationship, judging by the preview for next week it appears drama between them continues.
