Marriage Equality Roundup

Remember the afternoon the CA Supreme Court declined a request to strike down Prop 8 a group of 5 Denver activists with Soulforce staged a sit-in at the clerk and recorder’s office? Well those 5 people have taken their fight to court and are holding a joint-fundraiser this Friday to help pay their legal costs.

The fundraiser is a movie screening of “William Kunstler; Disturbing the Universe” (trailer below) at the Chez Artists and tickets are $15.  Since the event is Friday your best bet for tickets is to call John Ferguson (he was one of the 5 arrested) at 303 698 0302.

Now on to the big exciting news out of New Jersey.

Yesterday the New  Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee approved a marriage equality bill that would eliminate their existing civil union system and establish full marriage equality. Sunnie over at OutFront’s live-blogged (and tweeted) yesterday’s hearing.

The marriage equality bill now goes to the full Senate which will vote on the bill Thursday.  If the bill successfully passes, lame-duck democratic governor Jon Corzine has indicated he will sign it.
