• Colorado has seen at least a 13 percent increase in early syphilis cases reported in the first half of 2010 compared to the first half of 2009, and approximately 94 percent of those cases occurred among men who have sex with men, the majority of whom are gay identified.

• Approximately 48 percent of the gay men who were diagnosed with early syphilis in 2010 reported meeting sexual partners online.

• Over half of gay men diagnosed with syphilis are also living with HIV.

• In the first half of 2010, 1 percent of those diagnosed with early syphilis fell into the under 20 age bracket, 33 percent in the 20-29 age bracket, 25 percent in the 30-39 age bracket, 33 percent in the 40-49 age bracket and 8 percent over age 49.
