Real World DC – Ep 7 Recapped: “In Which Mike Gets Flack For The Whole Bi Thing “

February 16th, 2010 dangonzales

Part of a humorous weekly recap of MTV’s Real World DC featuring cast member and Denver queer Mike Manning.  These recaps are not meant to substitute for watching the actual show but rather provide humorous commentary about that week’s drama. Full episodes are available on MTV’s website here.

Y’all remember gay-boy-Eric that Mike met in the previous episode. Well Eric is back for a date and we get to see that he’s cute even without his hat on. Here have a look at his cuteness.

At dinner Eric is understandibly skeptical about Mike’s bi-ness but he’s not the only one, the girls are shown back at the house discussing the same thing. Ok in Mike’s defense I went through a bi identified phase when I was coming out and it would majorly suck to have other people speculating about my own sexuality behind my back on national TV.

Panda-hat Andrew makes a few brief appearances throughout the episode, mostly relating to how unclean we’re supposed to think the house is because of dirty boys like him.  Bugs (ants/flies) are found around the house and Andrew offers up his usual off the wall commentary.  Later in the episode he’s seen noisily cleaning assaulting a microwave.

Now it’s time for some girl drama. So Erika confides in the girls that she was suicidal at a point earlier in life. I’m totally distracted by Erika’s obnoxious leather strap headband thing but evidently Ashley is able to follow and she’s unsettled with all this open talk of issues she herself is affected by and not interested in talking about openly.

Ok now that I got that out of the way, every single one of Erika and Ashley’s 12 fights for the remainder of the epsiode relate to this.

Example: Ashley leaves for the club without Erika who is sitll getting ready.
BAM and we’re back arguing about Erika not understanding why Ashley isn’t comfortable talking about depression.

Example: The girls have a disagreement about taking a amphibious vehicle tour of the city or going shopping
BAM and we’re back arguing about depression again.

Screw a tour of the city, the group decides to go shopping… They stop for lunch on their shopping outing and sure enough another argument breaks out between the two.

Ty’s expression of boredom sums up my feelings perfectly.

Example: The group is going to play laser-tag and Erika tells Ashley they need to use the phone to call a cab.
BAM and we’re back arguing about depression again.

Ok enough girl drama.

The group goes out to some sort of club/bar/whatever and Mike’s date Eric calls out Mike on his double standard for thinking it’s ok to make out with a girl while you’re with your special guy at a bar.  Sure enough Mike is seein gettin friendly with some girls and Eric is seen looking uncomfortable with things.

Mike has a heart to heart with Erika about Eric’s negative reaction and shortly thereafter they have a breakup chat of sorts.  As silly and frivolous as MTV’s Real World tends to normally be I thought the breakup scene was actually kinda sad.  Eric really seemed to care about Mike and that made Mike’s temporary presence in the city unfortunate.

But it isn’t all sad, the boys do appear to have salvaged at least a friendship out of things as the following night they go with the girls to Nellie’s Sports Bar (it’s second RWDC appearance).  Eric’s a hottie and a sweetheart, I hope we get to see more of him.  Oh and Erika and Ashley manage to get in another argument while they’re at Nellie’s, big surprise.

What is normally the preview for next week’s episode started off with “later this season:” Andrew finally gets some, Mike is seen all cute and couple-ie with another boy, something about Josh’s band and Andrew takes a spill off the front stoop.
